Preventing Wound Infections at Home

preventing-wound-infections-at-homeWounds are damages of skin tissues that can take on different forms and are caused by external factors. They’re usually painful especially when they’re bleeding, swelling, and in reddish appearance. When the wounds are caused by animal bites or are too deep, large, and causing numbing to a body part where the injury is, skilled nursing is immediately needed.

Valley of The Sun Home Healthcare, your healthcare services care in Arizona, have skilled nurses you can contact to provide you with professional wound care services to prevent the development of infections in your wounds.

Here’s a simple process designed at our home health in Phoenix, Arizona to prevent wound infections at home and to facilitate their faster healing.

  • Stop the bleeding.
Make sure your hands are clean before placing a clean cloth over the injured area to ensure that germs don’t spread while you’re stopping the bleeding.
  • Clean the wound.
Clean your wound with soap and lukewarm water then remove visible foreign particles. When they’re too small, however, use sanitized tweezers to do the job. Don’t apply alcohol to avoid irritation and delayed healing.
  • Apply antibacterial ointments.
These ointments have antimicrobial substances to fight off bacteria. Stop using them in instances of allergic reactions.
  • Cover the wound.
Adhesive bandages are highly recommended because they’re less irritating. Don’t place them too tight to avoid disrupting the circulation. Change them daily or everytime they’re wet and dirty.

Repeat this process daily and observe your wounds. Check for pus and burning sensation. If you see no progress, bring them to the attention of our certified nursing aides immediately.

We also offer ostomy care. Check out our other services and contact us to get started!
